Michael D. Young is a professional mediator with Judicate West in California, and an intellectual property litigation attorney with the Los Angeles law firm of Weston, Benshoof, Rochefort, Rubalcava & MacCuish LLP.ÿ Mr. Young has been mediating cases since 1989, and was the founder and long-time chair of the Neutral Services Department.ÿ Building off of his extensive intellectual property and complex civil litigation experience, and his training through the nationally acclaimed Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine Law School, Mr. Young assists parties resolve contentious and complex civil disputes, often in creative and innovative ways that the parties themselves had not previously considered.ÿ


Mr. Young has extensive experience both litigating and mediating intellectual property disputes of all varieties, including those involving trade secrets, counterfeiting, restrictive covenants such as non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, reverse engineering claims, trade dress, customer and patient lists, trademarks, copyright, patent, and domain name rights.ÿ He has been recognized by his peers as a "Super Lawyer" in Intellectual Property for the last three years.ÿ In addition, in his 20-plus year legal career, Mr. Young has mediated, litigated, and tried hundreds of disputes involving employment, unfair competition, antitrust, and environmental issues (including CERCLA and RCRA cases), among other complex business disputes.ÿ He has further successfully managed and resolved large multi-party and multi-interest disputes involving public entities, and larger public policy issues.ÿ Mr. Young is one of the principal bloggers on Intellectual Property ADR topics at www.ipadr.com.

 

Exemplifying his dedication to the dispute resolution community, and his constant efforts to remain "current" with advances in mediation theory and practice, Mr. Young is an adjunct professor of law in Negotiation and ADR processes at the University of Southern California Law School, a position he has held since 1998, a member of the California State Bar's Standing Committee on ADR, and a Fellow with the renowned International Academy of Mediators.ÿ Mr. Young remains very active in the dispute resolution community, speaking publicly, serving on State and Bar ADR Committees, and publishing on the use of ADR in the resolution of complex disputes.
